Work & Lifestyle Balance
  • The cruise life is 24hr a day business, therefore you will be working 7 days a week and you should expect long days with various times off throughout the day depending on your role/shift pattern.
  • BUT if you are an organised and adventurous individual you can MAXIMISE your free time! You will be in some amazing ports of call which you will be the root of envy so spend your time wisely.
  • If you check out my Instagram you can see all the sorts of exciting places and activities that I have done.
  • Friends for life – you will meet people from all over the world and will be able to share your experience with!
  • 2 months off after completion of contract – this means you’ll be enjoying your well-deserved holiday/vacation and do all the things you never really get a chance to do and make sure you spend some quality time with your friends & family.
  • You will be sharing a cabin with someone from your division and as your room-mate they should be friendly enough to show you the ropes until you get used to everyday shiplife.
  • Cabins are relatively small, but you will have enough space to accommodate your stuff but do pack wisely, I can easily advise you on the essentials that you will need for your working adventure.
  • It will take time to adjust, as it’s a completely different way of living but give yourself that bit of time or if you are ever in doubt then speak to other crew members, as everyone on-board has been in the ‘same boat’ when they first started.
  • It will take you minutes to walk to your work place every day!
  • If you are successful enough to progress within your division and work your way up to management, you will then get extra benefits, such as getting your own cabin.
Social/Free Time
  • Destinations – Use your free time wisely, research the countries that you are going to or ask other crew members what they recommended or most iconic things to see or do. This is the best part of the job going to explore and getting lost in new countries and culture!
  • Crew Areas – You will have your own designated crew areas, which means in your free time you can relax at your leisure. The crew have their own separate areas that you can enjoy with your fellow crew members and you do not need to wear your uniform.
  • Socialise – Make sure you go and make some friends on board, as you will be away from home for long periods of time, its exciting to be able to share the on-board experience together.
  • Experience – Working onboard a cruise liner is a once in a lifetime experience, I can assure you it will not be like any other job you’ve had previously so take it all in and make the most of it!

“For me this type of lifestyle suited me, of strongly avoiding the ‘normal’ dull 9 -5, although at first I was thinking…no weekends off?! That means I’m going to be working 7 days a week for the next 6 months and 3 weeks and that seemed crazy BUT……

  • I was spending my free time in some of the most beautiful places in the world!
  • I was enriched in culture.
  • I loved my job – I was working outside, encouraging sports participation, and engaging with guests from all over the world.
  • I’ve truly made friends for life!
  • I really understood and learnt what the actual phrase ‘work hard play hard truly meant’.
  • It got me out of my comfort zone and I was always seeking new challenges and opportunities!
  • I couldn’t wait for my next travel and adventure.
